You can also swipe forward to listen to the next song and reverse to hear the previous track. The headphones are capable of connecting to two devices simultaneously and due to an inbuilt sensor, they will automatically stop the playback when removed from your head. You can turn on the ambient mode by placing your palm on the right earcup. This allows you to listen to the sounds around you without having to take off the headphones gaming.

Other useful features include the ability to pair them with your voice assistant, Bluetooth low-energy, and support for hi-res audio (via LDAC). They come with a sturdy carrying case made of premium fabric and a USB-C cable for charging. The headphones are compatible with most Android and iOS smartphones, as well as with computers that run Windows and macOS. The battery longevity of the WH-1000XM5 is excellent. In our test of the standard battery, we got 31 hours and 53 minute with the ANC on which was more than Sony's advertised 30 hours battery life.

The WH-1000XM5's mic performance on calls is superb, and there's no muffled or static-y sounding background. The noise cancellation performance is top-quality, and they're a good fit for public transport or the office.

Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

The Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2 is a significant upgrade from its predecessor, delivering top-quality performance and features. The Bowers and Wilkins PX7 S2 offers premium performance and features, including 24bit wireless streaming and active noise cancellation optimized, and clear voice calls on any compatible mobile or tablet. The new form and shape was refined over a period of time, and delivers an incredibly comfortable clamping pressure that isn't into my rotund skull.

They weigh 2 ounces less (or 307g) and a bit thinner than the Sony WH1000XM5. The headphones are lightweight enough to be carried in a backpack or bag and stay in place comfortably throughout long listening sessions. A sturdy hinge on the back of the headband enables you to fold them up to make it easy to transport them in the protective case.

They're powered by bluetooth headphones 5.2 with aptX Adaptive support which is ideal for high-resolution audio and tight video sync. You can also play the headphones wired, too, with the included 3.5mm cable that connects to a USB-C port on the right earcup. The headphone's status indicator is a useful feature with a green flash to indicate rapid charge and solid blue when Bluetooth pairing is in progress.

The B&W App offers the same features that the onboard buttons in the hardware offer including bass and treble adjustment as well as action button assignments wear detection, cycling through ANC modes as well as other features. The app also shows an album cover and track title when you play music on your iPhone. Popular extras such as music presets and a soundscapes mode are missing, however.

Anker Soundcore Life Q20
